Inspiration is everywhere. I see it when I look out the window and see the wind blowing through the leaves of a tree, or hear the birds singing. It's there when the cardinal lands and takes a bath in the puddle from the thunderstorm that just rolled through, the music of the storm lulling me with it's rumble. It's in the laughter of my son, and the feel of my little dogs fur against my feet as he lays under my desk and I write.
I write, and that is it's own inspiration. Just the act of putting words on the screen, the feel of my fingers dancing across the keyboard and knowing that they are creating scenes with that simple action. It's really amazing to me that such a small act can do such huge things. It can bring us pleasure, it can teach us about the past, or the future. It can even make us sad about things that happened around us, or hundreds of years ago. I love that feeling of knowing that so many people before me did exactly the same thing, and their words can be found even now.
When you have inspiration, it doesn't need to be applied to the writing - it's just there. You couldn't keep it from your words if you tried. Our writing is a part of us, and our inspirations make us who we are, so to ask if your inspiration guides your writing style is really not the question. The question, really, is...do you write? Because if you do, then you are inspired, and you can only be inspired by..well, by the things that you surround yourself with and that inspire you.
I feel that it boils down to just this - you write because you are a writer. Inspiration or not, writers find it within them to sit down and put words to paper. Inspiration or not noticing the inspiration can slow the process down, but if you are a writer, then eventually you will have to get out all those thoughts that crowd your head and fight for existence.
