Coffee Cup

The lovely white ceramic coffee cup, half filled with creamer laden coffee, sat contentedly on the brown veneer of its owners desk.  Now and again, it experienced the giddy sensation of being lifted, warm lips caressing its edge before it settled against the surface once more.  If it could sigh, it would, warm and proudly displayed as it were.

But wait...what was this?  A..neighbor?  The clear plastic surface was deceiving somehow, distorting the vision of the clear water with lemon held within.  Immediately the odd, rippling appearance led the handmade ceramic cup to be distrustful.  Sure, on the surface it seemed that everything was out in the open, nothing in the way to conceal any tricks.  But if you looked closer, it would make your eyes swim..if you had them.  Who knew what was really there behind the illusion.

If coffee cups could sniff, the white ceramic mug would, feeling superior to this large plastic abomination.  Useful, common, but where was the design.  No, it couldn't compete with the beauty of the mug itself.  Despite the fact that it could hold more, could it hold such a variety of liquids?  How about hot liquid?  No, the mug was both beauty and utility.  The ugly duckling next door couldn't compete on any level.

Lifted from the desk once more, the mug turned its attention to its owner.  What, it would say if it were able, were you thinking?  Why would you choose to use something so offensive when you could surround yourself with objects of beauty such as myself?  There is no need, it would advise, to settle for something that doesn't fill you with joy just because you think you need it.  No, look further.  Find beauty and service both within and for yourself!
